We will continue to do our best to secure Nigeria–GOC

The Nigerian Army (NA) has pledged to continue to do its best to secure Nigeria for peace to reign across the country.

Maj-Gen. Mohammed Usman, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan gave the assurance on Friday during a courtesy visit to him by Defence Correspondents at the Division’s Headquarters.

Usman said the Nigerian Army and other security agencies in the state and Nigeria in general were determined to put in their best for the protection of lives and property of citizens.

The GOC, however, called for cooperation of the media and other stakeholders, to effectively discharge their duties and serve the country better.

He said the Nigerian Army and other security agencies needed commendation and not condemnation from members of the public due to their unrelenting efforts at sanitizing the country.

The GOC called on the media to be fair in their reportage.

He further stressed the need for the media to always balance their stories, to report accurately the security situation in Nigeria and efforts being made in tackling it.

“You the media have your call and we have our call which is to secure the country.

“We are not saying you should not do your job but be professional in doing so. It is better we have cordial relationship with one another, ” he said.

Usman advised the media to always investigate the true situation of events before reporting.

“It is always better and good for investigative journalism, ” the GOC said.

He said that the army would continue to do it’s best to secure the country.

“We will continue to do our best and remain loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the betterment and development of the country,” he said.

On behalf of the delegation, Femi Amusan, the AIT correspondent, said the visit was to build on the existing relationship between the media and the Nigerian Army.

Amusan pledged the commitment of journalists in the state to fair and balanced reportage of security situation in the state and Nigeria in general.
