Vice President Shettima apologizes to Nigerian Muslims over comments on NASS leadership contest

Vice President Kashim Shettima has apologized to Nigerian Muslims over his comments on the leadership contest in the National Assembly.

In the build-up to Tuesday’s election of the 10th Assembly,

Shettima had in the build-up to Tuesday’s election at the National Assembly said the most incompetent Southern Christian is better than the most Northern Muslim for the Presidency of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The comment had however created controversy on the social media especially among the Muslim community.

Shettima has however now cleared himself over the comment in an interview on BBC Hausa.

He stated that he was quoted out of context and argued that the comments were made in the best interest of Nigeria as he was privy to some intelligence he cannot divulge to the public, saying that he has no ill will against Islam.

“I am a human who is bound to make mistakes, I therefore seek your forgiveness and God’s,” Shettima stated.

The Vice President assured that he is a true Muslim whose ancestors have been in Islam for a long time. According to him, he has no intent to defame any religion
