“Minister Festus Keyamo, SAN, Champions Weather-Resilient Economy at 2024 SCP Presentation, Advocating Early Warnings for Sustainable Development”

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, presided over the public presentation of the 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) organized by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET). Themed “Facilitating a Weather-Resilient Economy through Early Warnings for All to Foster Renewed Hope and Sustainable Development”.

The event underlined the crucial importance of the SCP in informing decision-making across sectors, mitigating the global climate crisis’s impacts, particularly on food security and aviation safety, while advocating for collaborative efforts to bolster national resilience. The Minister emphasized the importance of accurate climate predictions in enhancing preparedness and response strategies, he mentioned this while delivering his speech and quoted “…as we gather here today, we know the important role of accurate and timely climate predictions in shaping our preparedness and responses to ever-changing weather events. The information we are about to unveil today represents a roadmap for our communities, businesses, and policymakers to navigate the upcoming 2024 seasons. This is in support of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Notably amongst the distinguished attendees included former Aviation Minister, Ambassador Kema Chikwe, members of the National Assembly, representatives from the Governor’s forum, and Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who participated virtually.
