Kwara Govt demolish Mashood Mustapha’s Shopping complex in Ilorin

The Kwara State Government yesterday’s night finally demolished a Shopping Complex known as Crystal Place belonging to Honourable Mashood Mustapha in Ilorin.

The complex located along Zulu Gambari road, GRA Ilorin has been a subject of discussion about three days ago when the state government served the shop owners three hours ultimatum to move their properties away from the facility.

Our Correspondent reports that bulldozers commenced the demolition of the main building around 8:45pm yesterday.

It would be recalled that the Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS) had issued a statement saying it’s actions is based on new findings showing that the building violate government’s land use approval issued to the owner on March 22, 2013.

The statement also said the building conspicuously creates obstacles for urban planning, road expansion and environmental protection, key features of the urban renewal programme of the government.

Meanwhile, the former Federal Lawmaker, Mashood Mustapha, while reacting to the demolition of his complex said the development is politically motivated.

The Ilorin born Politician attributed the present ordeal to disagreement on plan to spend over N17billion on Kwara Hotel Remodeling as against three billion proposed by his company, Crystal Group.
