Emmanuel Ogbole’s double strike in the 67th and 78th minutes propelled Kwara United to a crucial victory over Plateau United in an NPFL Matchday 12 clash at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.The win solidified their momentum after an impressive away triumph against Nasarawa United last weekend.
Kwara United began the game with determination, with CHAN Eagles invitees Yahaya Ibrahim and Akanni Akeem leading a relentless attack. Despite creating early chances, their eagerness to score disrupted their precision in the final third.
Plateau United gradually found their rhythm, creating opportunities through long throw-ins, but Kwara goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmus stood firm to ensure the first half ended in a goalless stalemate.
The second half saw impactful substitutions for Kwara United, with Emmanuel Ogbole replacing Wasiu Alalade and debutant Abayomi Lawal coming on for Sanni Nurudeen in the 55th minute. These changes revitalized the team, with Ogbole proving instrumental.
In the 67th minute, Ogbole connected with a precise cross from Yahaya Ibrahim to break the deadlock. The goal energized the team, with Akanni Akeem and Lawal adding creativity to Kwara’s attacking plays.
Akeem was brought down in a penalty situation in the 78th minute. Ogbole stepped up to the spot and confidently converted the penalty, doubling the lead and sealing the victory.
