The Kwara State Fire Service on Monday promptly responded to a distress call reporting a fire outbreak at No. 158, Ile Alaparun Isale, Alore, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 2:07am in the early hours of Monday.
The Head, Media and Publicity for Director, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle said, “a fire truck and its crew swiftly arrived at the scene to combat the blaze at a dwelling of about 35 rooms.
“Upon arrival, the fire had already engulfed some rooms, but the determined firefighters worked diligently to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing its spread to other areas”.
“Ultimately, five rooms were affected, while 30 rooms were successfully saved”.
“Tragically, the fire claimed the life of a 41-year-old man, identified as AbdulFatai from Ile Alate, Abayawo. He had come to spend the night at a friend’s residence but was unable to escape due to intense smoke, which rendered him unconscious. His body was handed over to his family after the firefighting operation”.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by spontaneous ignition in a room storing combustible materials, including petrol, batteries and a tire inflator engine.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the Magaji of Ile Alaparun. He also emphasized the critical importance of adhering to safety precautions to prevent fire hazards.
Meanwhile, a government official confirmed the incident.
As of press time, a delegation of the Kwara State Government was about to visit the scene of the fire outbreak for an assessment of the situation.
“Yes, a devastating fire outbreak occurred in the Ile Alaparun Isale, Alore, early this morning.
“We learnt it claimed one life. We (a government delegation) will soon visit the scene of the incident to commiserate with our people,” the top government official said.
