Kwara United delivered a commanding performance to defeat Enyimba International 2-0 in an outstanding NPFL Matchday 16 fixture at the Rasheed Yekini Main Bowl, Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin, on Monday.
The Harmony Boys took control from the start, with their dominance paying off in the 4th minute when Shola AbdulRaheem was fouled in the box. The referee awarded a penalty, which Wasiu Alalade calmly converted to put Kwara United ahead.
The defensive quartet of Jimoh Gbadamosi, Kabir Muhammed, Ibrahim Yahaya, and Segun Adekunle held firm, ensuring Enyimba couldn’t find a way back into the game.
Junior Aimufua extended the lead in the 37th minute with a brilliant solo effort, dribbling past two defenders before scoring a stunning goal from the close range .
In the second half, Kwara United maintained their impressive display, although Enyimba’s defense thwarted attempts to increase the scoreline. The midfield duo of Akanni Akeem and Shola AbdulRaheem controlled the game, preventing Enyimba from creating meaningful chances.
Coach Tunde Sanni in his post interview praised his team’s preparation and resilience, stating, “If we can beat a team that represented Nigeria in the CAF competition, it shows our strength. We are not an ordinary team.”
He urged fans to keep supporting the club and expressed confidence in their ability to maintain this form, particularly as they prepare for a revenge mission against Niger Tornadoes in Minna.
Coach Stanley Egunma of Enyimba attributed the loss to fatigue from CAF and outstanding league matches, which left his players unable to rest adequately. He assured fans that his team would bounce back stronger.
