The Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF) has applauded the University of Ilorin for its conferment of the prestigious title of Emeritus Professor on Prof. Is’haq Olanrewaju Oloyede and other distinguished educationists.
In a statement issued yesterday in Ilorin, signed by the Coordinator of the Kwara State Chapter, Hon. Is’hak Mohammed Sabi, the Foundation described the recognition as a “remarkable gesture” that celebrates academic giants who have made transformative contributions to their disciplines and institutions.
The statement emphasised the significance of the honour, particularly for Prof. Oloyede, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and the current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
“Emeritus Professor Oloyede stands as a pillar of academic and administrative brilliance. His tenure as Vice-Chancellor marked a period of significant growth for the University, setting the foundation for the ‘Better by Far’ standards that the institution is known for today,” the statement read.
It further highlighted Oloyede’s innovative leadership style, which prioritised accountability, staff welfare, and institutional efficiency.
“These efforts transformed the University into a top choice for students across Nigeria”, the statement confirmed.
The IWF also commended Oloyede’s contributions as JAMB Registrar, noting that under his leadership the examination body has witnessed radical and exemplary transformations.
“Before his tenure, students waited months for results, which often delayed their admission processes. Today, JAMB results are released within 48 hours, showcasing his commitment to efficiency and innovation,” the statement added.
The IWF called on Nigerians to acknowledge Oloyede’s record-breaking contributions to the education sector, especially his high sense of integrity, transparency, accountability, patriotism & excellence in driving national development affairs.
IWF said, “As an organization populated by professionals that are committed to promoting transparency and accountability, we stand firm by Prof. Oloyede’s exemplary leadership and achievements in sanitising the many years of rot in JAMB and also taking it several years ahead of time”.
The organisation urged Prof. Oloyede not to be dettered by the criticisms of some mischievous public officers that are bent on “pulling him down” but should continue his exemplary service to the nation, describing his leadership style as a model capable of giving us the Nigeria of our dream.
IWF also applauded Oloyede’s enduring impact of always putting National interest above others and the pursuit of excellence in all circumstances that he finds himself especially in the educational sector.
“The recognition of Oloyede, alongside other education luminaries like Prof. Olu Obafemi and Prof. Musbau Akanji, by the University of Ilorin, highlighted the institution’s commitment to honouring excellence and inspiring future generations,” and is therefore commended for awarding these honours to deserving officers,” the statement reiterated.
