Kwara United secured back-to-back home victories with a 1-0 win over Bayelsa United in the Matchday 24 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Saturday.
The Harmony Boys had a slow start, allowing Bayelsa United to dictate early possession. However, they created key chances, with Wasiu Alalade missing two scoring opportunities in the 33rd and 42nd minutes, leaving the first half goalless.
The second half saw tactical adjustments from both teams. In the 62nd minute, Issa Gatta connected with a pass from Wasiu Alalade, but his shot went wide.
The breakthrough finally came in the 78th minute, when substitute Wasiu Jimoh capitalized on Alalade’s header to score the decisive goal, sending fans into jubilation at the Rashidi Yekini main bowl.
Despite attempts to extend their lead, Bayelsa United’s defense held firm, keeping the score at 1-0.
Head coach Tunde Sanni acknowledged the team’s slow start but praised their resilience.
“We missed some key players today, but I’m satisfied with the team’s performance. We will keep improving.”
Kwara United now moves up to 7th place with 35 points from 24 games. They will travel to Ikenne to face league leaders, Remo Stars, on Thursday at 5:30 PM.
