Kwara govt approves creation of Ministries of Livestock Development, Transportation

The Kwara State Executive Council has approved the restructuring and creation of two new ministries to enhance efficiency, improve coordination, and align governance with the state’s growing developmental priorities.

The decision was made at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning, presided over by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The memorandum was presented by the Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed.

In a press statement signed by Bola Olukoju, Hon. Commissioner for Communications and obtained by THE PRIME NEWS on Tuesday.

As part of the restructuring, the “Ministry of Livestock Development” has been carved out of the “Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development”.

This move aims to bolster food security and strengthen livestock development across Kwara’s 16 local government areas, refocusing attention on the challenges associated with large-scale livestock farming. The new ministry will play a crucial role in supporting farmers, herders, processors, and distributors across the livestock value chain.

Additionally, the council approved the creation of the “Ministry of Transportation”, which has been separated from the “Ministry of Works and Transport”. This restructuring is designed to establish a more effective and well-organized transportation management system, ensuring seamless mobility for residents and optimizing the state’s expanding infrastructure network.

As part of this change, the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) will now be under the Ministry of Transportation instead of the Ministry of Works.

With these adjustments, Kwara State now has 22 ministries, up from 20, marking another step in the AbdulRazaq-led administration’s efforts to strengthen governance and streamline public service delivery.
