The top names in music converged at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday night, as The Headies Awards return to Nigeria after two consecutive years in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.
The event, themed “Back to Base” and “Apologetically African,” honoured excellence in African music during the eligibility period from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024.
The 17th Headies also introduced two new categories: “Soundtrack of the Year” and “Best Performer (Live),” expanding the scope of recognition for artists’ contributions to the industry.
THR PRIME NEWS reports that the event was marred by poor time management and technical issues, forcing the organisers to end the ceremony abruptly before the announcement of winners in some major categories.
As at 3:32am WAT, no winners announced for: Best R&B Single, Best Collaboration, Lyricist On The Roll, Best Rap Album, Best Inspirational Single, Best West African Artiste of The year, Best North African Artiste of the year, Best South African Artiste of the year, Best Performer (Live), and a few others.
Funke Akindele’s record-shattering movie, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ won the newly introduced Soundtrack of the Year award.
