FIRS, NDIC to spotlight digital economy at summit

Regulators and players in the financial services industry are set to x-ray Nigeria’s digital economy at the 2025 Conference of the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria.

Expected to headline the annual conference themed ‘Bracing for the Digital Economy in Nigeria: Taxation, Banking and Finance’ are the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji; the Managing Director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Oluwadare Sunday; the Group Managing Director of UBA, Dr. Oliver Alawuba; and other industry experts.

According to a statement from FICAN, Alawuba and the Managing Director of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank Limited, Mr. Babatunde Olofin, will deliver keynote addresses at the conference, which is scheduled to be held in Lagos.

Both executives are anticipated to share perspectives on how financial institutions can adapt their operations, products, and services to a digital-first economy while ensuring inclusion and stability.

The FIRS boss, who is one of the guest speakers at the event, is to shed light on how Nigeria can harness technology to strengthen tax administration and improve government revenues in the digital era.

According to the FICAN executive led by Mr. Chima Nwokoji, the goal of the conference is twofold: to build the capacity of financial journalists and to serve as an agenda-setting forum for stakeholders in the economy. By equipping journalists with deeper knowledge of emerging issues in digital finance, the association aims to enhance the quality and accuracy of reporting in the economy.

THE PRIME NEWS reports that this year’s edition is particularly significant because it coincides with our 35th anniversary. As Nigeria navigates the complexities of a digital economy, this platform will provide critical ideas and solutions that can guide stakeholders in taxation, banking, and finance,” Nwokoji said.
