Fire guts building of four-bedroom flats in Kwara

A building of four-bedroom flats was gutted by fire in Ilorin, Kwara State capital on Monday, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

The incident occurred at about 14:17 hours at No 20, Oke-Bonke, Oluwole area, in Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.

According to the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin on Monday, “the incident involved a building comprising four-bedroom flats, all of which were affected by the fire before the arrival of firefighters.”

He, however, explained that despite the severity, the fire crew worked rigorously and professionally to stop the spread of the fire, preventing the situation from escalating to nearby structures.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was caused by a power surge, which triggered ignition within the building.

Director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged residents to take electrical safety precautions seriously, including the use of high-quality circuit breakers, surge protectors, and regular inspections of household wiring systems.

He emphasized that power surges remain a major cause of domestic fires and advised the public to remain vigilant, especially during peak electricity fluctuations.

The Director affirmed that the state fire service remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
