Hafsoh’s Murder: Kwara Ulama Council to hold orientation for young Islamic scholars

The Kwara State Council of Ulama has announced plans to organize an orientation programme for young Islamic scholars on the proper methods of propagating Islam in a manner that aligns with divine principles.

The council also reaffirmed that Ilorin and Kwara State are not havens for ritualists, distancing the region from such criminal activities.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin, the Chairman of the Council and Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Solihu, addressed concerns over the involvement of Abdulrahaman Bello in the alleged murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a graduate of Kwara State College of Education (KWCOED), Ilorin.

Bello reportedly killed and dismembered Hafsoh Lawal for ritual purposes.

Delivering the council’s position through the retired Grand Kadi of Kwara State and Executive Secretary of the council, Justice Salihu Olohuntoyin Muhammad, the Chief Imam condemned the heinous act, emphasizing that Islam strictly forbids the unlawful taking of human life.

He called on law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that justice is served.

“As a council, we are deeply concerned about justice for Hafsoh and her family. While we appreciate the Kwara State Police Command for their efforts so far, we urge them to carry out a comprehensive investigation. Anyone found guilty should face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others. This will not only cleanse our society but also redirect people towards righteousness,” the council stated.

The council also pledged its support in assisting security agencies in uncovering the full details of the case.

“As part of our commitment, we will intensify our preaching efforts to promote the correct approach to Islamic propagation. A meeting with Muslim leaders and clerics is being planned to discuss preventive measures against such occurrences in the future,” the statement continued.

The council of Ulama announced its intention to hold a special programme for young Islamic scholars, aimed at guiding them on the best ways to engage in Dawah (Islamic evangelism) in a manner that earns the pleasure of Allah.

Reiterating Ilorin’s rich Islamic heritage, the council urged the public not to generalize the actions of a few individuals.

“Ilorin and Kwara State are known for their deep-rooted Islamic traditions, which do not condone ritual practices. We appeal to Nigerians to refrain from profiling any community based on the criminal actions of a minority.

Ritual killings are condemned by all major religions, and we must all unite in the fight against such evils,” the council said.
