Gunmen kill eight NSCDC Operatives in Edo, abduct one

At least eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were killed on Friday night when gunmen suspected to be kidnappers ambushed a security convoy attached to the BUA Cement Company in Okpella, Edo State.

tHE PRIME NEWS gathered that The attack, which occurred around 10:00 p.m., targeted officers escorting five Chinese expatriates back to base after a routine patrol at the factory.

Witnesses said the heavily armed assailants opened fire on the convoy at the company’s entrance, leaving eight NSCDC operatives and one civilian dead.

Four expatriates were rescued unhurt in the chaos, but one was reportedly abducted by the attackers.

A source told the that four other NSCDC personnel sustained injuries during the ambush and are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

The Edo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Gbenga Agun, was said to have visited both the scene of the attack and the injured operatives in hospital.

The development has sparked fears in Okpella, with residents expressing concern over rising attacks on security personnel in the state.
