The Green House Farm at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, witnessed a significant milestone with the harvest of its bell pepper crop, an event graced by the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, THE PRIME NEWS reports.
The harvest ceremony served as a vibrant demonstration of the institution’s commitment to practical, hands-on learning, designed to empower students with entrepreneurial skills for a sustainable future.

THE PRIME NEWS reports that Commissioner inspected the thriving Green House Farm and also toured the institution’s other innovative cash crop projects, including a cocoa plantation and a mushroom farm. These initiatives highlight the Polytechnic’s proactive approach to integrating agriculture and technology into its curriculum.

In a commendation address, Hajia Kawu praised the Management of Kwara State Polytechnic, led by the Rector, Engr. Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, for their visionary leadership. She stated that the initiative is a direct reflection of the state government’s educational philosophy.

“This model aligns seamlessly with the forward-thinking vision of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has consistently championed initiatives that transform our tertiary institutions into hubs of innovation,” the Commissioner said. “We are committed to producing graduates who are not just job seekers, but job creators and drivers of national growth and development.”

She emphasized that projects like the Green House Farm are crucial for advancing food security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and fostering wealth creation among the youth.
The Rector, Engr. Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed explained that the programme is designed to blend academic excellence with practical skills, preparing students for leadership in agribusiness and entrepreneurship. “We are not only teaching theory; we are providing our students with a platform to become problem-solvers and innovators,” he noted.
