‎Brother Vs Brother: Court rules against Prof. Adimula in contempt case against Oba Adimula

‎The Kwara State High Court has dismissed a contempt case filed by Prof. Isaac Abiodun Adimula against Oloota Odo Owa, Oba Joshua Oluwatoba Adeyemi Adimula and six others.

‎Prof. Adimula, who is the monarch’s brother, along with claimants Mr. Tunji Osaji, Pharm. Sunday Adimula, and Chief Anthony Bankole, argued that Oba Adimula lacked the legal capacity to confer chieftaincy titles without meeting certain requirements.

‎The claimants also alleged that Oba Adimula violated a subsisting court order barring him from conferring honorary chieftaincy titles on anyone. The monarch, however, said he was not aware of the directive.

‎Counsel to Oba Adimula, Prof. Ariyo Osu, told the court that the claimants failed to follow due process in filing the committal proceedings that could have led to the monarch’s imprisonment.

‎Prof. Osu further argued that the titles conferred were honorary and fell within the inherent powers of the monarch’s office.

‎Justice Mahmud Gafar adjourned the matter to June 24, 2026.

‎It will be recalled that the traditional ruler recently marked his 10th anniversary on the throne of his forebears, during which he honored several individuals for their contributions to community development.
