NSCDC arrests 21-year-old over alleged kidnap, murder of 60-year-old technician in Ilorin

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 21-year-old man, Soliu Olarewaju Mujeeb, for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 60-year-old electrical technician, Mr. Olarewaju Olusegun Afolabi, in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

The State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed, disclosed this on Sunday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ilorin, following the conclusion of an intensive investigation into the victim’s disappearance.

According to the Commandant, Mr. Afolabi left his residence on June 7, 2026, to inspect an electrical installation project but failed to return home, prompting concern among family members and associates.

The case was reported to the NSCDC Tracking Unit on June 11 after repeated efforts to reach the victim proved unsuccessful.

Investigations revealed that shortly after his disappearance, the victim’s family began receiving ransom demands of ₦2 million from his mobile phone. The family was later instructed to pay ₦120,000, which they reportedly complied with.

Acting on intelligence gathered through digital tracking and financial transaction analysis linked to the victim’s account, NSCDC operatives traced and arrested the suspect.

During interrogation, Mujeeb allegedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he was previously employed as an assistant by the deceased in electrical installation services. He reportedly told investigators that a disagreement between them had led to personal resentment.

The suspect further confessed to luring the victim to an uncompleted building in the Kangile area of Kunlende, Ilorin, under the pretense of inspecting a new electrical project.

According to the NSCDC, he allegedly attacked and killed the technician at the location before taking possession of his mobile phone and SIM card, which were subsequently used to contact the victim’s family and demand ransom.

As part of the investigation, the suspect reportedly led security operatives to the crime scene, where a shallow grave believed to contain the victim’s remains was discovered.
