Prof. Adimula’s case stalled after counsel failed to prosecute case against Oloota Odo-Owa

The Kwara State High Court today adjourned a suit filed by Professor Isaac Abiodun Adimula against his brother, the Oloota of Odo-Owa, Oba Joshua Adeyemi Adimula, over the right to confer chieftaincy titles.

The case was adjourned to May 30, 2026.

The adjournment followed the claimants’ unpreparedness to move their application before trial judge, Justice Mahmud Gafar.

At the last sitting, the court had fixed the matter for a pre-trial conference but claimant’s counsel today sought another brief adjournment to “put his house in order and do the needful.”

Counsel for the defendants, Oba Adimula, Barrister Ahmed Abaya, who held brief for Professor Ariyo Osu, did not object to the request.

Earlier, the court dismissed a contempt of court application filed by Professor Adimula against Oba Adimula, Tunde Akinola, Mrs. Comfort Ogunyomi, Chief Lola Ashiru, Olajire Bamigbiye, and Dr. Samuel Adebayo.

Professor Adimula, along with Mr. Tunji Osaji, Pharm. Sunday Adimula, and Chief Anthony Bankole, is challenging Oba Adimula’s legal capacity to confer chieftaincy titles without meeting stipulated requirements.

They alleged the monarch violated a court order restraining him from conferring honorary titles.

However, Professor Ariyo Osu, counsel for Oba Adimula, argued that the titles conferred were honorary and within the inherent powers of the monarch’s office.

The matter was adjourned to July 30, 2026, for further hearing.
