Kwara to observe monthly sanitation exercise, tomorrow

By Ahmed Olayinka

The Kwara State Government has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for June will hold on Saturday, June 27, 2026, across all parts of the state, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

The exercise is scheduled to take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., during which there will be restrictions on both vehicular and human movement across the 16 local government areas.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Shakirat Muritala, on behalf of the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge.

The Commissioner urged residents to actively participate in the sanitation exercise by cleaning their homes, business premises, surroundings, drainages and other areas that may pose environmental or health hazards.

She disclosed that waste management trucks would be deployed across the state to collect refuse for proper disposal at government-approved dump sites.

Buge also warned that security agencies and environmental officers would be on patrol during the exercise to enforce compliance, adding that anyone found violating the sanitation order would be arrested and prosecuted at the nearest mobile court.

She further cautioned residents against indiscriminate disposal of refuse on pedestrian walkways, roadsides, drainage channels, canals and other unauthorized locations, stressing that such acts constitute offences under the state’s environmental laws.

The Commissioner appealed to residents to take advantage of the exercise to clear overgrown grasses and bushes, desilt blocked drainages and maintain clean surroundings to promote a healthy, safe and sustainable environment.

She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and urged all residents to support ongoing efforts aimed at making Kwara a cleaner and healthier place to live.
