Kwara Firefighters contain residential fire in Ilorin, prevent major disaster

The Kwara State Fire Service on Wednesday successfully contained a residential fire outbreak at Elemosho Villa, opposite Super Moon Filling Station in the Olumilade area of Ilorin, preventing the blaze from spreading to adjoining apartments and properties, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

According to the Fire Service, the incident occurred at about 10:34 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, involving a block of four room-and-parlour self-contained apartments.

The agency disclosed that only one of the apartments was affected by the fire, while firefighters swiftly mobilized to the scene and brought the situation under control by 11:05 a.m., averting what could have resulted in more extensive damage.

Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was triggered by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials inside the affected apartment.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Chief Fire Officer (CFS) Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to adopt preventive measures by installing surge protection devices and using standard electrical wiring and fittings in their homes.

He also advised members of the public to avoid overloading electrical circuits, carry out regular maintenance of electrical installations, and promptly alert the Fire Service whenever a fire outbreak occurs, stressing that early intervention significantly reduces the extent of damage.

The Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response and sustained public enlightenment on fire safety across Kwara State.
