Firefighters contain residential fire in Ilorin

The Kwara State Fire Service has contained a residential fire outbreak at the Asa-Dam area of Ilorin, preventing the inferno from spreading to an adjoining apartment, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

This was contined in a statement signed by the PRO/Head Media unit Kwara State Fire Service, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, MBA in Ilorin.

The incident occurred on Thursday, at a building located adjacent to Ile-Anu Wofem Church, behind the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Asa-Dam area of Ilorin.

According to the Kwara State Fire Service, its operatives received the distress call at about 3:56 p.m. and promptly mobilised to the scene.

The affected building comprises three three-bedroom flats and a room-and-parlour self-contained apartment. The fire, however, affected three bedrooms in one section of the building.

The Fire Service said the late notification allowed the fire to gain significant ground before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Despite the extent of the blaze, the firefighters deployed their equipment and expertise to successfully contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the adjoining block of room-and-parlour self-contained apartment.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the fire was suspected to have been caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials within the affected section of the building.

The Chief Fire Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, CFO Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to ensure that their electrical installations are regularly inspected and maintained by qualified professionals.

He also urged members of the public to notify the Fire Service immediately whenever a fire outbreak is noticed, stressing that early calls give firefighters a better chance of containing fires before they escalate.

The Kwara State Fire Service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring prompt response to emergencies across the state.
