Police disburse N10.6m to families of 19 fallen officers in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has presented cheques totalling N10,613,786.50 to the families of 19 police officers who died in the line of duty.

The cheques were presented on Monday at the command headquarters in Ilorin by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the intervention was aimed at providing support to the families and dependants of officers who lost their lives while serving the nation.

The statement said the gesture formed part of the Nigeria Police Force’s welfare initiatives designed to assist dependants of deceased personnel and cushion the impact of their loss.

While presenting the cheques, Adekimi urged the beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously, particularly for the welfare and education of their families.

THE PRIME NEWS reports that the Police chief said, although the financial assistance could not replace their loved ones, it reflected the Force’s recognition of the sacrifices made by the deceased officers and its concern for the wellbeing of their dependants.

“While no financial assistance can replace a loved one, this gesture demonstrates that the sacrifices of our deceased officers and the welfare of their dependants remain important to the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

Adekimi commended the Inspector-General of Police for sustaining welfare programmes aimed at supporting families of officers who died in service.

He said the intervention would provide some relief to the beneficiaries while reassuring serving police personnel that the Force remained committed to the welfare of their families.

Speaking on behalf of the 19 beneficiaries, M.T. Moshood expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force for remembering the families of the deceased officers.

Moshood described the gesture as a meaningful demonstration that the families of officers who died in the line of duty had not been forgotten.

The Kwara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to personnel welfare and to honouring the sacrifices of officers who lost their lives in the service of the nation.
