Kwara fire recovers 52-year-old man’s body from well in Ilorin

The Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday recovered the body of a 52-year-old man, identified as Alaba Ayeni, from a domestic well off Asa-Dam Road, Ilorin.

The was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Head Media/Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Fire Service, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, MBA and obtained by THE PRIME NEWS on Tuesday.

The incident occurred beside Lamp Bearers Islamic School, where the Fire Service received a distress call concerning a man reportedly found inside a domestic well.

According to the service, firefighters received the emergency call and arrived at the scene at about 8:42 a.m., after which they commenced a recovery operation.

The operation was successfully carried out, leading to the recovery of Ayeni’s body from the well.

Information gathered at the scene indicated that some children in the community discovered the man inside the well and immediately alerted elders in the area.

The well was reportedly located close to the residence of the deceased.

Following the recovery, the body was handed over to DPO Bolaji of Budo-Nuhu Police Station of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), for further necessary action.

The Chief Fire Officer, CFS Alabi Muhammed, expressed concern over the incident and urged residents to ensure that domestic wells and other open water sources in residential areas are properly covered and secured to prevent accidents.

He also advised parents, guardians and community leaders to ensure that children are not allowed to move around unattended near wells, drainage channels and other potentially dangerous areas.

The Kwara State Fire Service condoled with the family and community over the unfortunate incident, reiterating its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and protecting lives and property across the state.
