The Kwara State Government has declared its intention on the ongoing renewed transportation system to focus on creating an urban space that drives growth and development for all and sundry in the State.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for transportation, Kwara State, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi, during the first quarter, 2025 Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room on Wednesday in Ilorin.
Hon. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi while highlighting some of the achievements of the ministry of transportation for the first quarter under the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s led-administration, applauded the Governor for is visionary stride on transportation, especially, the ongoing Smart City projects, particularly on road infrastructure, adding that the setback, walk ways, traffic and road signs among other components, do not only add to the physical esthetic of State’s roads but also caters for the safety and conducive working environment that supports the general well-being of commuters and road users.

Lafia explained that its agency, Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority, (KWARTMA), and the Vehicles Inspection Office, (VIO), have been very committed and proactive in areas of monitoring and enforcement of traffic laws guiding against indiscriminate parking and road side garages, to create space while guiding against preventable occurrence of accidents for the security of live and properties.
“With the establishment of the Ministry of Transportation, our Agency has continued to intensify its efforts at enforcing the policy of “No parking” “No Waiting” “No Trading” along the walkways to discourage haphazard and indiscriminate parking on the road and as well prevent road encroachment by traders, Honourable Lafia stated.
The Commissioner for Transportation, equally noted that the ministry has been having a remarkable impact in mediating between all the transport unions in their areas of concerns, strengthening tides while enhancing behavioral sanity in the transportation sector; thus, promoting unity, peace and tranquility for the State.
He further explained that the ministry already is on a progressive path of having a technologically supported vehicle inspection system, through the Kwara State Automated Vehicle Inspection Unit of VIO (KWAVIS), which according to him, will enhance efficiency, sanity, transparency in the Kwara State transportation system while reducing stress.
“Similarly, through the Kwara State Automated Vehicle Inspection Service (KWAVIS), the Ministry has taken giant strides towards sanitizing the State’s transportation system using advanced technology of servicing vehicles to improve service delivery on vehicle inspection, maintenance and driver’s training, thereby improving generation of more revenue for the State while reducing human stress; He explained.
He however, assured the media of the Ministry’s continued steadfast to intensify effort on security caution through erection of an intelligent automated traffic lights across strategic axis and road junctions within the metropolis, aiming at curtailing the infiltration of traffic offenders while preventing the mayhem activities of the non-state actors in some part of the State.
