The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the Kwara State College of Education (COED), Oro, amid worsening security challenges in the area.

The decision was conveyed in an internal memo dated January 20, issued by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology and signed by the Commissioner, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu.

The memo, obtained by THE PRIME NEWS on Thursday, stated that the directive was given on the instruction of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

According to the ministry, the closure forms part of a wider government decision to shut down all schools within the affected local government area following increased security threats in and around the institution.

“The action is in the best interest of the safety and security of staff, students and members of the host community,” the memo noted.

It further explained that the closure would remain in force pending a thorough security assessment and further directives from the state government.

The ministry also instructed the management of the college to comply immediately with the directive and submit a report to the ministry without delay.
