NDHS 2024: Kwara records lowest Under-5 Mortality rate in Nigeria

Kwara State has emerged as the best place in Nigeria for a child to be born and raised, according to the latest survey released by the Federal Ministry of Health.

The survey, contained in the 2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), shows that Kwara State recorded the lowest under-five mortality rate in the country at 14 deaths per 1,000 live births.

Reacting to the report, the state government described the development as a reflection of its sustained investment in the primary healthcare sector.

According to the government, the report affirms that ongoing reforms and investments in healthcare infrastructure and services across the state are yielding positive results, particularly in improving child survival and maternal health outcomes.

While expressing pride in the achievement, the government assured residents that it would not relent in its efforts to further strengthen the healthcare system.

It noted that the current ranking should serve as motivation to build on the progress made so far and ensure even better healthcare services for the people of the state.

The government added that more initiatives would continue to be implemented to sustain the gains recorded in the health sector and improve the overall wellbeing of residents.
