Joint security operatives have rescued three of the seven worshippers abducted during an attack on an ECWA church in Omugo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Sunday when suspected bandits stormed the church during service, causing panic among worshippers and residents before abducting several members.

Confirming the development, the State Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said in a statement that security forces swiftly responded to the attack, successfully rescuing three of the victims.

She added that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abductees.

Olukoju commended the prompt and coordinated response of security agencies, including forest guards and local vigilantes, whose intervention helped repel the attackers and prevent further casualties.

“The government has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible and ensure the safe return of the remaining victims,” she said.

The commissioner condemned the attack on a place of worship, describing it as cowardly and unacceptable, and stressing that such acts have no place in society.

She urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, emphasizing the importance of community support in ongoing operations.

Olukoju also noted that sustained forest combing operations in the area have continued to yield positive results in curbing criminal activities.

The state government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while assuring residents that every effort is being made to rescue the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
