Ifelodun left out of recent elevation, Omupo Community appeals to Kwara Gov for Olomu recognition

Ifelodun left out of recent elevation, Omupo Community appeals to Kwara Gov for Olomu recognition

On behalf of HRH Oba Muhammed Yakubu Adebayo Buhari, Ilufemiloye II, Olomu of Omupo, the Omupo Youth Digital Economy Empowerment Program (OYDEEP), the Omupo Descendants Union (ODU), Omupo stakeholders and the entire Omupo community respectfully request the kind consideration of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, to elevate the Stool of Olomu of Omupo to First Class status within Ifelodun Local Government.

We write with unity of purpose and deep respect for the traditional institutions and administrative processes of our state.

We are confident that the elevation of the Olomu stool to First Class will strengthen local governance and further recognize the historic and cultural importance of Omupo in Kwara State.

The Stool of Olomu of Omupo has for generations served as a central pillar of traditional authority, community cohesion and moral leadership for the people of Omupo and surrounding communities.

The incumbent, HRH Oba Muhammed Yakubu Adebayo Buhari, Ilufemiloye II, has demonstrated exemplary stewardship, fostering peace, progress and unity among his subjects.

Under his leadership, Omupo has remained a peaceful, law abiding community that contributes positively to the cultural and socio economic fabric of Ifelodun Local Government Area and Kwara State at large.

Evidence and History:

  • Omupo is a prominent ancient town in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State and serves as the district headquarters for roughly 34 to 38 surrounding communities and villages.

Some records and local reports cite the district composition as 38 communities.
  • District Composition: Omupo is the headquarters of 38 communities.
  • Traditional Authority: The monarch, the Olomu of Omupo, oversees the Omupo District, which comprises these 38 towns and villages, exercising customary authority and providing traditional leadership across the district.
  • Role: Omupo serves as the headquarters of the Omupo Area Council, functioning as an administrative, cultural and social hub for the district and its dependent communities.

We draw attention to the fact that Omupo has an established history, cultural heritage and a record of contributions to the development of the state which merit formal recognition.

The elevation of the Olomu stool to First Class status would not only honor that heritage but will also encourage accelerated development through enhanced access to state resources, improved representation in traditional council deliberations and a stronger platform for preserving our customs and values for future generations.

Over the past months and years, a number of memorands and petitions have been prepared and submitted to relevant state authorities to demonstrate the eligibility and readiness of the Olomu stool for First Class status.

We remain grateful for the channels that permit communities to present such cases and we have engaged constructively with the required processes, providing relevant documentation and testimonies that highlight the stool’s qualifications and the incumbent Oba’s proven leadership.

In addition to formal submissions, the Omupo community, through ODU, OYDEEP and other stakeholder groups, has made persistent efforts to secure the support of key private and public figures in the state.

We have reached out to traditional, political and administrative leaders at various levels to explain our position and seek their counsel. These engagements were carried out respectfully and in accordance with the norms that govern the recognition and classification of traditional stools in Kwara State.

We humbly note that the recent elevation exercise did not include any Oba from Ifelodun Local Government Area, which opens an opportune moment for the state to consider stools within the local government for future classification.

This absence presents a timely window for renewed consideration of the Olomu stool and we kindly urge Your Excellency to use your good office to ensure that due attention is given to Omupo’s longstanding claim for First Class status.

The elevation of the Olomu stool to First Class status would have tangible benefits for grassroots governance, local development initiatives and intergovernmental cooperation.

It would enhance the capacity of the Olomu to collaborate with government agencies, attract investment and mobilize the community in ways that align tradition with contemporary development goals.

We believe this recognition will catalyze positive change that will be felt directly by the residents of Omupo and the wider Ifelodun Local Government Area.

We respectfully solicit the continued prayers, goodwill, and advocacy of our political representatives and supporters within the state.

We call on all friends of Omupo to join in supporting this respectful appeal to Your Excellency, trusting that the administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusive development will guide the consideration of our request.

The people of Omupo remain ready to cooperate with the state government and relevant stakeholders to provide any further information or clarifications that may be required.

Finally, we convey our profound appreciation to Your Excellency for your leadership and your administration’s ongoing efforts to foster peace and development across Kwara State.

We place our petition in your hands with humility and confidence, praying that Almighty God will grant success to our endeavor and bless the administration with wisdom. Ameen

Signed:
Omupo Youth Digital Economy Empowerment Program (OYDEEP).
