The Kwara State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Matrix reported stolen earlier in the day, following the deployment of advanced tracking technology.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the vehicle was traced and recovered along the Ilorin–Jebba Road just hours after the theft.

According to the statement, the case was reported at about 2:00 p.m. on April 27, 2026, at the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin.

THE PRIME NEWS gathered that the vehicle had been stolen around 11:00 a.m. from a parking space at Mandate Market.

Police operatives immediately activated an integrated tracking and immobilisation system linked to the car’s security device.

The system enabled real-time location tracking and remote disabling of the engine, which proved crucial in the recovery operation.

The vehicle was eventually located along the Jebba Expressway, where it had been abandoned by the suspects.

Investigations revealed that the perpetrators attempted to evade detection by changing the vehicle’s registration number, while the original plate was later recovered nearby.

THE PRIME NEWS reports that the recovered car has since been secured at the SCID for further investigation, as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to using technology-driven and intelligence-led strategies to tackle crime and enhance public safety across the state.
