Residents of Oja-Iya Community in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating condition of the Oja-Iya culvert bridge, warning that the structure has become a serious danger to commuters and residents.

The concern was raised following reports and photographs obtained through a volunteer reporter, which revealed the worsening state of the bridge, particularly as the rainy season gathers momentum.

Community members described the culvert as a potential death trap, noting that its deteriorating condition poses significant risks to road users and nearby residents.

They expressed fears that heavy rainfall and flooding could further weaken the structure, leading to avoidable accidents and property damage.

The residents appealed to the Kwara State Government, led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the bridge before the situation escalates into a major disaster.

According to them, prompt action is necessary to safeguard lives and property, as well as ensure smooth movement within the community.

They further called on relevant government agencies to assess the condition of the culvert and commence immediate repair works, stressing that continued neglect could result in severe consequences for residents and motorists who rely on the route daily.

The community urged authorities to treat the matter with urgency, emphasizing that proactive intervention would help prevent future tragedies and improve public safety in the area.
