The National League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) has fixed Wednesday, July 1, 2026, for the conduct of its election to usher in a new set of officers that will steer the affairs of the association for the next three years, THE PRIME NEWS reports.
The election will take place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State and is expected to bring together veteran journalists and media stakeholders from across the state.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Hajia Biliqis Oladimeji, who urged all eligible members of the association to actively participate in the electoral process to ensure a transparent, peaceful and credible exercise.
According to the statement, members will elect officers into several key positions, including Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Auditor and Ex-officio members, among others.
Oladimeji described the election as an important milestone in the association’s efforts to strengthen its leadership and enhance its commitment to the welfare and professional development of veteran journalists.
She appealed to members to turn out in large numbers and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise, noting that the election presents an opportunity to reinforce unity, strengthen the league and consolidate its achievements.
The Electoral Committee also expressed confidence in delivering a free, fair and credible election that would reflect the collective will of members.
The National League of Veteran Journalists is an association of retired and veteran media practitioners dedicated to promoting members’ welfare, preserving the ethics and values of journalism, and contributing to the growth and development of the media profession.
Meanwhile, the incumbent Chairman and Kwara State Correspondent of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Alhaji Mohammed Tunde Akanbi, is expected to seek re-election, alongside other members who are either contesting for another term or aspiring to serve in various positions on the incoming executive committee.
