A joint security operation involving the Kwara State Police Command, other security agencies and the Kwara State Polytechnic Security Unit has led to the arrest of a suspected cultist and the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol in Ilorin, THE PRIME NEWS reports.
The operation, which was driven by intelligence gathering and coordinated security efforts, resulted in the arrest of Agboola Olamilekan, who was allegedly found in possession of the locally fabricated firearm.

The Kwara State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the operation forms part of the Command’s ongoing campaign to dismantle violent criminal networks, suppress cult-related activities, curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and prevent criminal elements from operating within the state.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying operations against cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
He stated that every successful operation represents another milestone in the Command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and improve public safety through proactive, intelligence-led policing.
The police commissioner added that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspected members of the criminal network linked to the arrested suspect.
He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to advancing the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, through intelligence-driven policing, strategic collaboration with other security agencies and sustained operations aimed at ensuring that individuals who threaten the peace and security of Kwara State are brought to justice.
