Kwara Police begin immediate enforcement of traffic laws across state

The Kwara State Police Command has announced the immediate enforcement of traffic laws and regulations across the state as part of efforts to improve road safety, restore order, and reduce the increasing cases of traffic violations.

THE PRIME NEWS gathered that the directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, is in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police and takes immediate effect.

In a statement on Wednesday, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command said the enforcement exercise became necessary following growing concerns over the persistent disregard for traffic regulations by some motorists and other road users.

According to the statement, the increasing violation of traffic rules has contributed to avoidable road crashes, traffic congestion, obstruction of free vehicular movement, and the unnecessary loss of lives and destruction of property across the state.

The Police Command explained that the exercise is aimed at restoring sanity on the roads, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, safeguarding lives, and promoting an orderly transportation system throughout Kwara State.

It emphasized that the initiative is not designed to inconvenience law-abiding residents but to encourage a culture of responsibility, discipline, and respect for the rule of law among all road users.

The Commissioner of Police directed officers participating in the operation to carry out their responsibilities professionally, firmly, and with due respect for the rights and dignity of members of the public.

CP Adekimi also warned that any police officer found violating traffic regulations or engaging in misconduct during the enforcement exercise would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force.

The Command urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as other road users, to comply fully with traffic laws by obeying road signs, observing speed limits, avoiding reckless driving, ensuring their vehicle documents are valid, and refraining from actions capable of endangering other road users.

The police further appealed to residents of Kwara State to cooperate with officers during the statewide exercise, assuring the public that the operation is in the overall interest of public safety.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safer roads, protecting lives and property, and maintaining a secure environment where all road users comply with established traffic regulations.
