There was a massive turnout of voters at Ward 09, Unit 011, in Ikire, Osun State, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, is expected to cast his ballot.

Voters arrived at the polling unit in large numbers to participate in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.

Some voters described the process as peaceful and hitch-free, expressing confidence that their votes would count.

Younger voters were seen queuing orderly to exercise their franchise, while elderly voters were allowed to sit and given priority to cast their ballots.

Osun voters are electing the next occupant of the Bola Ige Government House for a four-year term.

A total of 15 political parties are on the ballot, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking a fresh mandate on the platform of the Accord Party.

Two candidates, Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Simon Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), had announced their withdrawal from the election.

While Adeyemi-Doro endorsed Oyebamiji, Adewale declared support for Adeleke. However, both APGA and APM remain on the ballot.

Currently at Polling Unit 20, Ward 4, Osogbo Local Government Area. The election here is going on smoothly.

Voting has commenced across polling units in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas of Osun State.

THE PRIME NEWS observed that despite the initial fears of voter apathy due to pre-election violence, there is massive turn out of voters.

In Ward 2, Units 3 and 5,Olorunda local government area, voters turned out enmasse as voting started at few minutes to 9am due to late arrival of INEC ad-hoc staff.

It was also observed that police personnel at the polling units were not armed and conducted themselves accordingly.

In Ward 5, Unit 14, Olorunda local government area, voters complained of an alleged BVAS glitch which was later clarified.

The presiding officers explained that the issue was that if fingers print and picture.

He explained that any of the criteria could be used for accreditation during the voting.

At Ward 5, Unit 7, Olorunda local government, DAILY POST observed that the aged and People With Disabilities, PWDs, were given preference as voting commenced.

There was also reported case of BVAS machine glitch in Ward 1 Unit 10 Boripe L.G at 8:40am.

The Osun INEC Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode, clarifying the usage of BVAS, disclosed that the criteria for accreditation is either through finger prints or pictures.

He added that if one fails to register, the other is still acceptable.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has cast his vote at Ward 02, Abogunde Sagba, in Ede North Local Government Area of the state.

The governor had arrived at Polling Unit at about 8:10 am on Saturday.

He is seeking re-election under the platform of Accord Party after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through which he won the governorship seat in 2022.

As of 7:13 am, voters were seen waiting at Gulf Junction, Ogo Oluwa Ward 4, Unit 2, Osogbo, the state capital.

This election will feature 15 political parties, although only few candidates have actively engaged campaigns by presenting manifestoes and touring all the local government areas of the state.

At the forefront is the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is running under the Accord Party. He is joined by Bola Oyebamiji, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Najeem Salaam, representing the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

In addition to these three main candidates are 12 other individuals on the ballot.

They include: Olanrewaju Farinloye of the Action Alliance; Olajide Esan of the African Action Congress; Adeagbo Opawoye from the African Democratic Party; Adesina Adeyemi-Doro of the All Progressives Grand Alliance; Adewale Adebayo of the Allied Peoples Movement; Clement Adesuyi from the Action Peoples Party; Masilo Adeleke of the Boot Party; Taofeek Adeleke from the New Nigeria Peoples Party; Saliu Oyelami of the Peoples Redemption Party; Olalekan Ogunsakin of the Young Progressives Party; Francis Ajala from the Social Democratic Party and Adefemi Adesuyi of the Zenith Labour Party.

Yemisi Adeagbo, representing the African Democratic Party, is the sole female candidate in the election.
