The Kwara State Police Command has commenced Operation VELVET, a continuous enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws and promoting road safety across the state, THE PRIME NEWS reports.
The operation commenced on Tuesday, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, PSC, MNIPS, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC(+), NPM.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation is designed to promote responsible driving, enhance road safety and protect the lives and property of motorists and other road users.
The Command said the enforcement exercise would focus on ensuring that motorists comply with existing traffic regulations and that vehicles operating on roads across the state possess valid and legally required documents.
THE PRIME NEWS gathered that motorists have consequently been advised to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and that all relevant documentation is up to date before embarking on journeys.
The Police Command warned that Operation VELVET is a continuous enforcement programme, stressing that motorists found violating traffic laws or operating vehicles without the required legal documents would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with extant laws and due process.
CP Adekimi urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with police personnel, obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly.
The Commissioner assured residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring safer roads, protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and public order across Kwara State.
