Eid-el-Maulud: Natasha urges Muslims to embrace peace, compassion, unity

The lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to promote peace, compassion, unity and peaceful coexistence, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

Akpoti-Uduaghan made the call in a goodwill message issued in Abuja on Tuesday, as she felicitated with Muslim faithful, particularly those in Kogi Central, on the celebration.

The senator urged Muslims to reflect on the life, teachings and exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), stressing that the significance of Maulud should extend beyond festivities.

According to her, the celebration provides an opportunity to renew commitment to values such as compassion, justice, humility, peace and love for humanity, which she described as essential to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

“Maulud is a beautiful opportunity for us to reflect on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose message emphasised compassion, justice, humility, peace and love for humanity. These timeless values remain essential to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” she said.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also urged Muslims in Kogi Central to preserve the district’s tradition of peaceful coexistence among different communities and religious groups.

She encouraged residents to become ambassadors of peace, tolerance and unity, noting that Nigeria’s diversity should serve as a source of strength rather than division.

“Our diversity should never divide us; rather, it should strengthen our collective resolve to build communities where everyone can live, worship and pursue their aspirations in peace,” she stated.

The senator further called on Muslim leaders, parents and youths to use the celebration to promote moral discipline, peaceful dialogue, compassion for the less privileged and responsible citizenship.

She urged Nigerians to extend support to vulnerable members of society, stressing that caring for the poor and needy remains consistent with the humanitarian values exemplified by the Prophet.

“As we celebrate Maulud, let us remember the less privileged among us. Let us share, forgive, show compassion and extend a helping hand to those in need,” she added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also cautioned against religious intolerance, hatred, violence and divisive rhetoric, particularly at a time when the country needs greater unity and understanding.

She called on political, traditional and religious leaders to promote peaceful coexistence, dialogue and constructive engagement across communities.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us, and our collective progress depends on our ability to live together in peace. Let us use the lessons of Mawlid to strengthen our commitment to unity, justice, compassion and peaceful coexistence,” the senator said.
