Oko-Olowo Flyover: KWARTMA cautions motorists as preparatory work begins

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has alerted motorists and commuters to the commencement of preparatory works for the construction of the Oko-Olowo Flyover in Ilorin.

The Authority, in a statement issued on Thursday by its Head of Media/PRO, Olawuyi Gani Olalekan, said an opening at the entrance to and from the Oloje axis had been cordoned off as part of the initial activities for the project.

It added that temporary alternative routes had been provided to facilitate the movement of traffic and minimise congestion within the corridor.

According to the Site Engineer, the initial phase of the project would involve soil sampling, column-related investigations and other technical assessments ahead of the full commencement of construction.

KWARTMA said it would work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective traffic management throughout the duration of the project.

The Authority added that sustainable alternative routes and other traffic diversion measures would be communicated to members of the public once they were finalised.

It urged motorists to exercise caution while approaching the affected corridor, reduce their speed and obey traffic signs as well as directives from traffic management personnel.

Motorists were also advised to avoid indiscriminate parking along the route to prevent road crashes and unnecessary traffic delays.

KWARTMA appealed to residents, motorists and other road users for their cooperation and understanding as the project progresses, assuring that necessary measures would be taken to minimise its impact on traffic movement.
