UniAbuja’s Senate appoints an interim Vice-Chancellor, following Na’Allah’s departure

Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, a renowned expert in International Law and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Abuja, has been appointed as the acting Vice-Chancellor by the University’s Senate. Her appointment was announced after a valedictory Senate meeting on June 26, 2024, and will take effect following the end of Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah’s tenure on June 30, 2024. Na’Allah served as Vice-Chancellor for five years, noted for his impactful leadership.
In her acceptance speech, Maikudi expressed gratitude for the Senate’s confidence in her. Born on January 31, 1983, she is the youngest female professor of Law in Northwestern Nigeria and the University of Abuja. She has an LLB from the University of Reading, an LLM from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja. Joining the University of Abuja in 2008, she became a professor in 2022 and has held various significant roles, including the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law and the pioneer director of the University of Abuja International Centre. Maikudi is also an active member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Federation of Women Lawyers.
