Kwara 2027: KYPN endorses Wale Sulaiman for APC Governorship Ticket

The Kwara Young Progressives Network (KYPN), a coalition of young professionals, community leaders, student groups and civic advocates across the 16 local government areas of the state, has reaffirmed its endorsement of Professor Wale Sulaiman as its preferred candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued after months of consultations, the group said its decision was based on a careful and objective assessment of the leadership capacity, experience and policy direction required to steer Kwara State at a critical period in its development.

Describing the endorsement as strategic rather than sentimental, KYPN noted that it considered the credentials of all known aspirants within the party before arriving at its position.

The group emphasized the need to prioritise competence and readiness over mere political ambition.

According to the coalition, Professor Sulaiman’s background as a globally recognised physician and administrator positions him as a candidate with the experience to manage complex systems and deliver measurable outcomes.

It added that his track record in leading institutions and handling high-level responsibilities distinguishes him in the race.

The group also highlighted his longstanding philanthropic efforts through the RNZ Foundation, noting that his contributions to healthcare access, youth empowerment and support for vulnerable groups predate his political ambition.

It described this as evidence of a consistent commitment to service.

KYPN further pointed to his proposed development blueprint, the Kwara Prosperity Agenda, which it said outlines clear policy directions in key sectors such as education, healthcare, job creation, security and poverty reduction.

The coalition called on APC leaders and stakeholders at both state and national levels to support what it described as a credible and capable candidate, urging party delegates to prioritise unity and long-term development in their decision-making process.

It concluded that presenting a candidate with proven competence and broad appeal would strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 elections and position Kwara State for sustainable growth.
