The Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, has trained officers and men of the Kwara State Police Command on fire prevention and emergency response as part of efforts to strengthen operational preparedness and promote safety across police formations, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

The training, held at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ilorin, was organised in collaboration with the Kwara State Police Command and attended by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, members of the Command Management Team, senior officers and other personnel.

The exercise focused on practical knowledge of fire prevention and management, including the various types of fire extinguishers, their functions, appropriate applications and basic procedures for responding to fire outbreaks.

Participants also took part in practical demonstrations involving controlled fire scenarios, where they received hands-on guidance on the proper handling and use of different fire extinguishers.

The training team was led by DSF Toyin Ibrahim, Head of the IIE Department, who stressed the importance of remaining calm and responding promptly and appropriately during fire emergencies.

Speaking during the exercise, CP Ojo Adekimi commended the State Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Kwara State Command, ACF Ibrahim Adisa Sarafadeen, for initiating the training and sharing the agency’s professional expertise with police personnel.

The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to continuous capacity development and stronger inter-agency collaboration, noting that modern policing requires personnel to be adequately prepared not only for security operations but also for emergencies capable of threatening lives and critical infrastructure.

CP Adekimi urged the officers who participated in the training to apply the knowledge gained and promote a strong culture of safety within their respective formations.

The Command said the initiative further demonstrates the importance of inter-agency cooperation in enhancing emergency preparedness, protecting lives and property and strengthening the practical response capabilities of security personnel.
