The Ifelodun Local Government Council of Kwara State has commenced moves to revive the Ifelodun Travelers transport system as part of efforts to improve transportation and stimulate economic activities across the local government.
This was contained in a statement made available by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Ifelodun Local Government, Abdulquadri Jimba.
The initiative followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the council, under the leadership of Chairman Hadji Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf and P & A Contract Limited for the construction of a modern motor park in Amoyo.

Speaking during the MoU signing ceremony held on Monday at the council’s contact office, the chairman said the project was driven by the need to establish a distinct transport identity for Ifelodun Local Government and provide residents with a dedicated transportation hub.
He noted that residents travelling to and from communities in Ifelodun had for years depended largely on transport facilities at Offa Garage and Maraba in Ilorin.

According to him, reviving the Ifelodun Travelers identity would provide an opportunity to build a more organised and efficient transport system for the people.
“At some point in the history of Ifelodun Local Government, we had Ifelodun Travelers, which does not exist anymore. I don’t think there is anything wrong with bringing that identity back to the limelight. Now, we want to add value to that identity,” he said.
The chairman also disclosed that the council was working with relevant stakeholders to introduce 10 Korope buses, which would commence operations as soon as possible.

He added that the council was collaborating with the Kwara State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to ensure that the proposed transport operations run smoothly.
The Supervisory Councillor for Works and Infrastructure Development, Mrs Kolo Rebecca, said the proposed motor park would include a garage, warehouse, a 100-unit shopping complex, parking spaces and public toilets.
She explained that the facilities were designed not only to improve transportation but also to promote economic activities, enhance the image of the local government and provide residents with a more convenient transportation system.
According to her, the project aligns with the efforts of the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to extend development and effective governance to the grassroots.

The contractor, Mallam Jimoh Toheeb Abolore, assured the council that the project would be executed promptly and in accordance with the required standards.
He said the completed project would contribute positively to the development and overall image of Ifelodun Local Government.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Nike Ajibola; Secretary to the Local Government, Dr Kamil Akorede; DPM, Mallam Ayinde Salman; LGT, Mallam Usman Waheed; Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Chief Ademola Zubair; Head of Works, Engr. Awodi Muhammad; Land Officer, Tola Kadir, and other Special Assistants.
The development is expected to provide Ifelodun residents with a dedicated transport hub while creating additional opportunities for commerce and improving connectivity within the local government.
