The Kwara State Government has commenced the construction of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hospital Diagnostic Centre, a major project aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to modern diagnostic services in the state.
The project was officially flagged off during a brief handover ceremony in Ilorin, where the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, transferred the site to the contractor, United Integrated Construction Ltd.
According to a statement issued by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Saad Hamdalat, the ceremony was attended by key government officials, including the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Segun Ogunshola, alongside other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Dr. El-Imam described the initiative as a strategic move by the state government to prioritise accurate and timely diagnosis as a critical component of effective healthcare delivery.
“Diagnosis is central to treatment. Without timely and accurate diagnosis, even the best medical interventions may not yield the desired results,” she said.
She explained that the project is designed to address the longstanding challenge of residents travelling outside the state for specialised diagnostic services.
“For years, many Kwarans have had to seek advanced diagnostic tests outside the state. This facility will help reverse that trend by bringing such services closer to the people,” she added.
The commissioner further noted that the centre, when completed, would operate within the Civil Service Clinic framework, offering a wide range of services to support both routine and specialised healthcare needs.
In his remarks, Dr. Ogunshola emphasised the importance of quality and adherence to standards, assuring that the project would be closely monitored to ensure compliance with approved specifications and timely delivery.
“This project will meet the highest standards in terms of safety, durability, and functionality. We will ensure strict supervision to guarantee that the contractor delivers as expected,” he said.
A representative of the construction firm, identified as Mohammed, expressed appreciation to the state government for the opportunity and pledged to deliver a high-quality project within the stipulated timeframe.
“We understand the importance of this project and are committed to delivering it on schedule and in line with required standards,” he said.
Upon completion, the diagnostic centre is expected to serve as a central hub for advanced medical testing, equipped with modern laboratory and imaging technologies to enhance the detection and management of various health conditions in the state.
