Stakeholders rally support for Toyin Alabi, demand equity in Kwara governorship race

By Christie Doyin

Political stakeholders and community leaders in Kwara State have intensified calls for fairness, inclusiveness, and competence as the build-up to the 2027 governorship election gathers momentum.

The renewed advocacy follows growing debates over reports that some political interests are pushing for the governorship seat to remain in Kwara Central, a development that has sparked varied reactions across the state’s political landscape.

Observers insist that decisions surrounding the next governorship should be guided by equity, justice, and the collective interest of all senatorial districts, rather than narrow regional considerations.

Several stakeholders also raised concerns over what they described as attempts to politicise security challenges in parts of Kwara South and Kwara North, warning that insecurity should not be used as a basis to sideline any region.

They emphasised that security issues are national in scope and require coordinated solutions, not political manipulation.

They further noted that Kwara Central itself is diverse, with strong demographic and political ties to other districts, reinforcing the need for a broader, more inclusive approach to leadership selection.

Amid the ongoing conversations, Dr. Oluwatoyin Tajudeen Alabi has emerged as a prominent figure gaining traction among supporters, who describe him as a widely accepted candidate with strong grassroots appeal and significant experience in private sector leadership and community development.

His backers point to his track record in philanthropy, youth empowerment, and educational support initiatives as evidence of his commitment to public service and societal development.

They also portray him as a unifying personality capable of bridging political and regional divides, stressing that Kwara requires leadership focused on security, economic growth and inclusive governance.

The stakeholders urged party leaders and decision-makers to ensure that the process of selecting a governorship candidate reflects fairness, competence and the overall interest of the state.

As political consultations and alignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections, analysts say issues of equity, security and inclusive leadership are likely to remain central to discussions shaping Kwara’s political future.
