The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested two suspects over alleged burglary, unlawful possession of firearms and suspected cult-related activities in Ilorin, recovering two locally fabricated guns and a live cartridge during the operation, THE PRIME NEWS reports.

The Command said the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations launched after receiving separate reports of burglary and housebreaking incidents in different parts of the Ilorin metropolis, where mobile phones, laptops, electronic appliances and other valuables were reportedly stolen.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC I Ayoola Michael Shola, operatives of the NSCDC Tracking Unit arrested one of the suspects, Ajiboye Adedamola Oluwatobi, popularly known as “Kush-T,” at a suspected criminal hideout in the Danialu area of Gaa-Akanbi, Ilorin.

The statement added that further intelligence-driven operations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Dayo Sesan, also known as “Sexy.” During the operation, officers recovered two locally fabricated firearms and one live cartridge from his possession.

Preliminary investigations, according to the Command, revealed that the suspects are allegedly linked to a criminal syndicate believed to be responsible for burglary and other related crimes in the Tanke, Pipeline and Gaa-Akanbi areas of Ilorin.

The NSCDC further disclosed that the suspects identified themselves as members of the Aiye Confraternity, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their alleged criminal activities and identify other members of the syndicate.

Items recovered during the operation include two locally fabricated firearms and one live cartridge.

The Command said the suspects would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment to public safety, the Kwara State Command, under the leadership of Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed, said it would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations, proactive crime prevention strategies and collaboration with other security agencies to protect lives and property across the state.

The Command also appealed to residents of Kwara to continue supporting security agencies with timely, credible and actionable information to strengthen efforts at combating crime and enhancing public safety.
