FULL LIST: Spain top latest FIFA world rankings after World Cup triumph

Spain have returned to the top of the FIFA Men’s World Rankings after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing Argentina as the world’s highest-ranked national team.

The latest rankings, released after the conclusion of the World Cup in the United States, reflect the impact of Spain’s successful campaign, which ended with a 1-0 extra-time victory over defending champions Argentina in the final at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

Luis de la Fuente’s side climbed to first place with 1,995.88 ranking points, while Argentina dropped to second with 1,970.37 points following their defeat in the final.

France retained third place despite finishing fourth at the World Cup, while England remained fourth after beating France to secure the tournament’s bronze medal. Five-time world champions Brazil completed the top five.

Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team

Morocco continued to lead African nations in the global rankings, climbing to sixth overall with 1,803.99 points.

The Atlas Lions’ consistency over recent years has helped them maintain their position as Africa’s top-ranked side, ahead of Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico, who complete the global top 10.

Mexico’s return to the top 10 was one of the notable movements in the rankings following the World Cup.

Germany drop out

One of the biggest changes in the latest rankings is the absence of Germany from the world’s top 10.

The four-time FIFA World Cup winners, who spent several years at the summit of the rankings during their dominant era under Joachim Löw, slipped out of the elite group after failing to maintain their position following the tournament.

The rankings underline the shifting balance in international football, with European nations continuing to dominate the upper reaches of the standings after another successful World Cup campaign.

Spain’s remarkable rise

Spain’s return to the top of the rankings caps another outstanding period under head coach Luis de la Fuente.

The former youth team coach has now guided Spain to multiple major honours, having previously led La Roja to the UEFA Euro 2024 title before adding the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Spain’s World Cup triumph also completed an extraordinary run in which they conceded just one goal throughout the tournament, underlining their defensive solidity alongside an attack that proved decisive in the knockout rounds.

The victory over Argentina secured Spain’s second men’s World Cup title, 16 years after their maiden triumph in South Africa in 2010.

Argentina remain among the world’s best

Although Argentina surrendered both their World Cup crown and the top ranking, Lionel Scaloni’s side remain second in the world after another impressive tournament.
